This is the art of visual storytelling, be it a chili cook-off, or a county fair, or the university laboratories. No matter the location or final medium, my job is to enter another world, find the story-lines within, and bring that story back to share with others.

Whenever I have time to myself, I head outdoors. Time in the woods and time on the water are essential elements to me. I grew up in Vermont, where outdoor activities are as much a part of the culture as maple syrup. Now I continue that tradition locally. This is how I see nature.

A portrait provides context, capturing a moment in time that is all about an individual. I don't believe in overused, scripted poses - I encourage each person to simply be themselves. Then, when the photographs begin, I am capturing true, candid moments.

Wildlife photography is a specialized branch of nature photography, but the basic concepts are closer to portraiture. Photographs of a subject, animal or human, are powerful when they reveal something about the subject & give a true view of the creature.
