The ladies behind NEPA BlogCon
Alright, playing catch-up here, but that’s okay because these images are too cool not to share, and the point behind them is still relevant.
These ladies are the creative genius behind NEPA BlogCon, which may be the biggest blogging event to hit Northeast Pennsylvania in…well, ever. BlogCon will take place on Saturday, September 29th, 2012 at Luzerne County Community College in Nanticoke. Check out their website for all the details, but suffice to say it’s going to be huge. And awesome. Just like they are.
Since my girlfriend is one of them (she’s the one in the tree), this photo shoot was my contribution to their cause. (And it is a good cause, because in addition to the educational benefits, the profits are going to local charities!) The only requirement was that they act like their usual colorful, zany selves. No grip-and-grin stuff, no corporate boardroom setups. Not here.
We met at Nay Aug Park in Scranton on a particularly warm June evening and shot in the Treehouse and, later, in front of the Everhart Museum. The ladies lived up to their promise and made it a shoot to remember. Don’t they look like fun? Wouldn’t you want to take a workshop they were teaching?
Most of the shots were of the group together; they brought props, so there was no shortage of ideas on how to put together the next image. But I also made sure that we took a few minutes to get some individual headshots of each of them. A good headshot is critical, especially when you’re looking to represent yourself online. The whole Myspace self-portrait look is way out of style – you need something classy. It can be edgy, it can be creative, but it needs to look good.
We broke some photographic rules here and shot into the sun, with funky color and flare. They loved it. I love it. That’s all that matters.
This last image was the final shot of the evening and I can’t help but share it. It made me laugh then, and I still grin (and shake my head) when I see it now. With the ladies up on the rail of the museum, I told them to pose like rockstars. No discussion, no hesitation, this is what they gave me:
Gotta love it.
Check out the BlogCon site and, if you’re interested, get your tickets now – I’m told they’re cheaper online than at the door. (A last aside – despite the fact that I live with one of these ladies, I don’t really know what’s up with the whole “Fearsome Foursome” title. Or their squirrel fetish. But they’re all very cool chicks – I promise you that!)
