The Big Damn Cookout
Yes, that is exactly what it appears to be – bacon cooking on a grill! Because really, could anything be more awesome? (Speaking as someone who got to eat it, the answer to that question is an unconditional “no”.)
Back at the end of June, some of the wonderful folks from Whiskey Bacon held a BBQ. They had me right there. I mean come on, die-hard foodies with a deep-seated love of bacon, throwing a BBQ…there’s no chance that this won’t be incredible. And it was. Of course.
Since I call myself a photographer, I had my camera with me. But since I was just noodling around (get it? food puns!) I brought my fully-manual Takumar macro lens with me. This is a lens that may be older than I am, with no electronic or automatic abilities whatsoever. But it does things that none of my fancy automatic lenses can do. You probably don’t care about any of that, so just enjoy the delicious photos I made with it.
For reference, those are pieces of garlic in the burgers above. Pieces of garlic that you can see! In burgers! Can you tell how excited I was? This is how burgers should be! Plus we had roasted veggies, sweet corn, chili, baked goods, and at least a dozen other things that I know I’m forgetting. In short, a great afternoon, spent eating great food with great people. That’s the sort of thing all our summers should be filled with.
And grilled bacon. Of course.
